MDAC Malaysia: Foreign visitors who aren't exempt should complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before arriving at KLIA. Check whether you belong to an exempt group before completing the card. Carry a valid passport, and check whether your nationality requires a Malaysia visa.

In short

  • MDAC timing: Complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) 3 days prior to arrival.
  • Single Entry Visa: A Single Entry Visa is normally valid for three (3) months from the date of issue.
  • Multiple Entry Visa: Each Multiple Entry Visa entry is for 30 days.
  • Help with eVISA: The eVISA portal Live Chat Support runs 24 hours a day.

Who must complete the MDAC

Choose to check first whether an MDAC exemption applies to you; if not, complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before arrival.

Who must complete it

Unless an exemption applies, the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) must be completed by all foreign citizens travelling to Malaysia, 3 days prior to arrival. The MDAC is submitted online through the submission link of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

Who is exempt

The MDAC does not apply to citizens of Singapore or diplomatic and official passport holders. Malaysian Permanent Residents and long-term pass holders are exempt as well.

General Certificate of Identity (GCI) holders from Brunei Darussalam are exempt from the MDAC. Brunei Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility holders, Thailand Border Pass holders and Indonesia Cross-Border Travel Document holders do not need the MDAC either.

Best for: Visitors checking whether they need to complete the MDAC.

Passport, visa and ticket before you fly

Choose Malaysia entry requirements if you need to check which documents you need and whether you need a Malaysia visa before you fly.

Passport

To enter Malaysia, you need a recognized and valid passport or international travel document. Your passport must be valid for six months or more from the date of entry into Malaysia.

Visa

On top of the passport, foreign nationals need a visa (if necessary) to visit Malaysia. If you need a visa, apply first at any Malaysian Representative Office abroad.

A Malaysian visa is not an absolute guarantee of entry to Malaysia: the final decision rests with the Immigration Officer on duty at the gate.

Visa-free stays for ASEAN nationals

ASEAN nationals except Myanmar need no visa for a stay of less than one month. For longer stays, a Malaysian visa is required, except for Brunei and Singapore nationals.

Return ticket and funds

Every visitor must prove the financial ability to cover the stay and hold a fixed return ticket to go home or to another country.

Health certificate

Travellers from the listed risk countries must show a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate on arrival in Malaysia.

Best for: Visitors checking passport, visa, return-ticket and funds requirements before departure.

Visa types if your nationality needs one

Choose a Single Entry Visa if you need a Malaysian visa for one visit. Choose a Multiple Entry Visa if you are an Indian citizen or a citizen of China visiting socially.

Single Entry Visa

A Single Entry Visa is normally valid for a single entry and for three (3) months from the date of issue.

Multiple Entry Visa

Citizens of India and the People’s Republic of China on a social visit can apply for a Multiple Entry Visa, valid for one (1) year. Each entry is for 30 days, and extension of stay is not allowed. Multiple Entry Visa applicants must show proof of sufficient funds; tour groups are not eligible.

The Multiple Entry Visa fee is RM100 for Indian citizens and RM30 for citizens of the People’s Republic of China.

Transit and eVISA help

If you stay inside the airport and continue on the same flight, you do not require a transit visa. The eVISA portal Live Chat Support runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Best for: Visa-required visitors choosing a visa for one visit or social travel.
