Thean Hou Temple Kuala Lumpur is a Chinese temple that was built in 1987 by the Hainanese community in Malaysia. It is dedicated to Thean Hou, or the Heavenly Queen of the Heavens, who is thought to preside over the destiny of all mankind. Located at 65 Persiaran Endah, off Jalan Syed Putra, it stands as a symbol of unity between Buddhism and Taoism.
The temple offers visitors a peaceful and serene atmosphere with its ornate architecture and intricate decorations. It comprises six levels, each dedicated to different deities such as Guan Yin (the Goddess of Mercy), Mazu (Goddess of Seafarers), Tua Peh Kong (the Protector of the People) and others. The main hall is where grand ceremonies are held such as ancestor worship and birthdays for gods on special occasions. Inside the temple, there are three altars for worshiping Guan Yin, Mazu and Tua Peh Kong respectively. There are also several other halls including one for weddings, funeral services and others for educational purposes.
Besides offering prayer services and spiritual guidance, Thean Hou Temple Kuala Lumpur also regularly organizes festive activities such as traditional dances performances, lantern festivals and more. It serves as a focal point for social gatherings among various ethnicities in Malaysia while fostering closer ties between them through cultural exchange events held here throughout the year. On top of this, it also has an amazing view from its roof garden which overlooks Kuala Lumpur City Center – perfect if you’re looking to capture some breathtaking shots!
