What this plan covers
This two-day route suits travellers who want time for prayer, mosque visits and halal food checks without rushing between areas. Day one stays in George Town, with walks linking Kapitan Keling Mosque, Armenian Street, Little India and Fort Cornwallis. Day two follows the north coast from the Floating Mosque to Entopia and Batu Ferringhi. Arrange first: check JAKIM’s prayer schedule for Penang, then choose mosque visits and meal breaks around the times that suit you. Use the halal-status search if you want to check a restaurant’s certification.
Opening hours, prices and routes can change, so check the details before you set off.

Kapitan Keling Mosque
Culture
45 minutes
Indian Muslim seafarers from the Coromandel Coast established Kapitan Keling Mosque, the oldest mosque in George Town and a centre of the Indian Muslim community. Its name refers to the title used for the community’s leader. The mosque’s domes and tall minaret give this George Town stop a distinctive silhouette. Its place in the Indian Muslim community makes it a fitting start for a day planned around prayer.
Good to know
A heritage guide recommends visiting between the daily prayers. Dress modestly; suitable clothing is available for visitors. Check JAKIM’s zone selector for Penang’s current prayer schedule. Begin in George Town at the mosque; choose your arrival time around the current prayer schedule.

Armenian Street murals
Culture
45–60 minutes
Armenian Street is in George Town’s heritage area. Ernest Zacharevic painted the Kids on Bicycle mural here as part of a street-art project created alongside the 2012 George Town Festival. Look for Kids on Bicycle and Boy on Chair around Armenian Street. Some works combine painted images with real objects, making the street itself part of the viewing experience.
Good to know
Allow 45–60 minutes to explore Armenian Street and nearby street art. Watch for pedestrians and traffic when stopping to look. From Kapitan Keling Mosque, walk about 6 minutes on foot to Armenian Street.

Little India, George Town
Food
1 hour
Market Street and nearby Penang Street form the core of George Town’s Little India, an early settlement area for Indian immigrants to Penang. Its streets are associated with Tamil Indian shops and trade, including spice shops on Lebuh Pasar. Browse the spice shops on Lebuh Pasar and the Indian restaurants and shops around Market Street, Queen Street and Chulia Street. Pause for food here and check the restaurant’s halal certification if needed.
Good to know
Use the Verify Halal Status search to check a restaurant’s certification. Certified premises may display the halal logo and original certificate. From Armenian Street, walk about 8 minutes on foot to Little India.
Getting to Fort Cornwallis
10 min on foot · 0.85 km

Fort Cornwallis
Culture
1.5 hours
The East India Company built this shore-side fort as a defence against pirates and other intruders. It began as a palm-trunk stockade after the company arrived in 1786, was rebuilt in brick and stone from 1804, and was completed in 1810. Walk around the star-shaped fort and look for surviving features such as the gunpowder room and Seri Rambai Cannon. Its position on George Town’s shore brings the day’s walk to the waterfront.
Good to know
Weekend guided tours are available, though times are not given. Check before you go if you want a tour, and follow the site’s visitor instructions. From Little India, walk about 11 minutes on foot to Fort Cornwallis.

Floating Mosque, Tanjung Bungah
Culture
45 minutes
Built in 2004 to replace a mosque damaged by the tsunami, this mosque stands on stilts over the bay and seems to float at high tide. Its architecture combines local and Middle Eastern styles. The mosque stands above the bay on stilts, with a minaret about as tall as a seven-storey building. The setting makes this a distinctive place to pause for prayer and take in the coast.
Good to know
Operating hours are 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Dress modestly and remove shoes where asked; check the prayer schedule before choosing your visit time. Start in Tanjung Bungah; arrange your transfer from George Town before setting out.

Entopia
Nature
3 hours
The Penang Butterfly Farm opened in 1986 at Teluk Bahang and later relaunched as Entopia at the same location. Take the self-guided trail between the outdoor garden and indoor discovery centre, then try the interactive activities focused on nature and invertebrates. In the garden, look for free-flying butterflies and other animals among more than 200 plant species.
Good to know
Daytime opening hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily; last admission is at 5:00 p.m. Check current ticket prices before you go. From the Floating Mosque, travel about 12 minutes by car or e-hailing ride, longer in traffic.
Batu Ferringhi is a Penang beach area with sandy shores, and its night bazaar is part of the evening scene. The roadside market has stalls selling souvenirs, T-shirts, handbags and accessories; local craft and batik demonstrations may also be on view. Finish with time on the sandy shore and a look through the roadside bazaar. Browse its souvenir, T-shirt, handbag and accessory stalls, and look out for local craft or batik demonstrations.
Good to know
The market operates every day, from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Carry rain protection for the coast and check current ticket prices for any separately ticketed activity. From Entopia, travel about 8 minutes by car or e-hailing ride, longer in traffic.
Where to stay
Hotels near this plan
Distances are estimates, measured in a straight line from the middle of your stops.
Yes, if you keep day one focused on the four George Town stops and walk between them. Day two includes a mosque, Entopia and Batu Ferringhi, so set the mosque visit around prayer time and leave enough of the day for the longer middle stop. The visit lengths are suggestions, not a reason to rush.
What should I arrange first for a Muslim friendly Penang itinerary?
Check JAKIM’s prayer schedule for Penang first, then set mosque visits and meal breaks around it. Confirm Entopia’s admission timing before day two, and use the Verify Halal Status search if you want to check a restaurant’s certification. Check current ticket prices for paid attractions.
What should I wear and bring?
Choose modest clothing for mosque visits and remove shoes where asked. Suitable clothing is available for visitors at Kapitan Keling Mosque. Carry water and rain protection for the walks and coast, and follow on-site instructions at places of worship.
How do you get around between the stops?
The George Town stops connect by the walking legs in this route. For day two, arrange your transfer from George Town to the Floating Mosque before leaving, then continue by road to Entopia and Batu Ferringhi. The road legs are about 12 minutes and 8 minutes by car or e-hailing ride, longer in traffic.
Where should you stay?
George Town heritage core suits the first day’s walkable stops and gives you a base before travelling north. This site has 380 stays within 1 km of Khoo Kongsi, including 147 hotels. Check availability once, then compare the location with your preferred prayer and transport schedule.
